Well this week confirmed that even “Super Moms” need a great sidekick.
Wednesday morning everyone woke up excited and ready to go to Schlitterbahn, including me. I got up, cooked breakfast, and made sandwiches for lunch. It takes almost an entire loaf of bread to make sandwiches for our family, and I’m not even talking the about using the tiny loaf of Dave’s Famous Bread that John and I would normally buy. Once I got over the shocked of the amount of bread it takes to feed our growing family, we got everyone and everything loaded up and arrived at the park just as it was opening. We found a great spot next to a baby splash pad and kid zone perfect for Jettie and the twins to play. John and Julia headed off to ride a few rides, while I hung out with the 3 littles. Once they returned we all headed over to make a family trip around the lazy river rapids and all. Since the river ride almost put the twins to sleep, we decided to go have lunch and see if Erin and Timothy might nap. There was a little boy about the twins age at the table next to us napping so peacefully, which made me feel like there might be a 5% chance that they would actually take a nap themselves. Well let’s just say that the 95% chance of them not napping won out. While John and Julia headed out to ride more slides around the park, the rest of us hung out under the shade of the baby splash pad. Everything was going just peachy until Jettie bolted up the stairs of the sand castle themed water slide. I took off after her quick, fast, and in a hurry while still trying to keep a close eye on the Erin and Timmy. Just as I caught up to her and turned to make my way down the stairs, I slipped. I fell down about half a flight of stairs before the concrete broke my fall. Protecting Jettie and little Miss Truitt were my main concern so my right arm and knee took the brunt of it. I stood up slowly a little sick to my stomach. Now I like to think I have a pretty high pain tolerance. I did have Jettie and the twins naturally with not so much a Tylenol, but my arm hurt and for a breif moment I thought it was broken. I hobbled over to my phone and called John to let him know what happened. They had just made their way to the front of the first line, and I’m pretty sure John got yelled at by a park employee for jumping over the rope and running. John and Julia made it back to me in record time.
After some convincing, I finally persuaded John that I didn’t need to go to the hospital, and we decided to head back to the beach house and put everyone down for a nap; then Julia and John could head back to the park. After a snuggle session and nap with Jettie Ruth, I woke up sore but excited to continue on with our vacation. We spent the rest of the week hanging out on the beach, splashing in waves, and building sand castles, before we made an overnight stop in San Marcos to catch up with a few friends.
As ironic as it may sound, somehow John and I managed to have one of the most relaxing and best vacations since we’ve been married. We got to experience quality family time. We got to laugh as a family and cry as a family. The crying due mostly in part to a poor decision to go out to eat after a 6 hour road trip in the car, and I am pretty sure other people in the restaurant were crying right along with us. This time together showed once again God’s incredible handiwork. It showed me that even “Super Mom” needs an incredible sidekick. God knew exactly what He was doing when he placed John and me together on this husband and wife journey, and even more so when He made us parents to 5 amazing kids. I’m excited to have the first of many summer family vacations in the books, and I can’t wait for all of the adventures to come.
THE END…
