Go To Bed!

I wrote a blog earlier about some of the tips that we use with sleep training. However, just like many things in parenting, something can be working great and then BOOM, your 2 year throws a wrench in it.

It’s nights like last night that make me feel like I’m failing miserably as a parent. Over the last week we have transitioned the twins from two naps a day to one, as well as, moved up their bedtime almost an hour. While this was a fairly smooth transition, Jettie has started sleep regression, which is shocking since she is almost 2 1/2 and hasn’t had any issues up to this point. Well last night was the night when it all came crashing down. The babies were exhausted and screaming as John and I struggled to get them into their pajamas. As soon as we got them dressed, they pooped. There is a lot of poop in our house. We changed their diapers, causing an even bigger meltdown, and finally got them to bed. Jettie, on the other hand, did not want to go to sleep. She literally came out of her room 20 times. The first few were the typical, “I’m thirsty,” and “I need to go potty.” Each time she would open her door and peak out, John or I would pick her up, put her back in bed, and close the door. After about 2 hours she finally stopped coming out, and John and I headed off to bed.

The following morning John got up to get ready for work and found Jettie asleep on the floor by our bed holding a bag of chips. She played and played before making herself a midnight snack and crashing on the floor beside our bed.

While nights like last night made question my sanity and whether John and I will ever be able to watch an hour long episode in less than 2 hours again, they are also reminders, that in the end, you can only do the best you can. Not even a New York Times best selling parenting book or the most popular parenting podcast out there will have all of the answers. Some times you just have to roll with, and pray!

THE END…
